White Church Durham

Unless you've been living under a rock, let me tell you about the new place to be seen in Durham. White Church.

Formally the New Inn on Church Street Head just opposite Durham Uni (Science site I believe) is the newly renovated White Church. Owned by the successful Flat White.

I've been so excited to try the new White Church for breakfast but slightly reluctant as I'm sure it will be overrun by students. But when my sister decided she wanted to go for her birthday tea of course I jumped at the chance!

Bookings are only taken one week in advance, there is onsite parking for around 6 cars other wise you might struggle with the street parking. White Church is also dog friendly, so naturally Fenton is already looking forward to his trip there.

All 6 of us arrived and found refuge in the bar area for a G&T before going to sit at our table.

White Church have nailed the interior, it is absolutely stunning, but oh my days it was cold!

We moved over to the table as we were promised it was warmer there, it wasn't. But we looked at the menu and popped our beer jackets on.

As I'd ran 20 miles the day previous, I was starving and willing to order 3 courses. So we jumped straight into the starters.

Macadamia hummus, rosemary, raisins, seeded flatbed £8. This was delicious, a pretty simple starter but done with so much taste.

Bone marrow and wild mushroom toastie £6.

Crispy cauliflower, blue cheese, pear, pickled onion £6.

Pork and pistachio terrine, truffle hunters mustard, with sourdough bread £7.

We all found our starters delicious and eager for the next course.

Sage and parmesan crust pork chop, roast apple, celeriac, fennel £16.

Flat iron steak, roast shallot butter, marinated tomato, with chips £17.50.

Whole lemon sole, ratte potato, brown shrimp butter and hazelnuts £23.

Batted cod, shredded sprouts, preserved lemon mayo, chips £17.

Potato gnocchi, ragout of Scottish girollles (mushrooms) £14.

We all really enjoyed our food at White Church but there is still a few teething problems to sort out with the service, which is understandable. I'm really looking forward to going for brunch one day. Maybe closer to Christmas when the streets of Durham feel a little emptier. We didn't end our meal there. Matty and I couldn't resist pudding!

Ginger pudding with bay leaf custard for him £6.50.

Valrhona 'Caramelia' chocolate mouse for her £8. This was amazing!

Before I round the blog post off you must check out the bathroom at White Church, absolute goals!!

Bookings can be made after Noon, as breakfast is  a first come first served basis and I can imagine in busy periods there could possibly be a short wait, which I imagine will be totally worth it.

Open Tuesday till Sunday 8:30 am till 10pm.

To book call 0191 386 8897.
