The Escape Key Newcastle (An Escape Room)

As I’ve never been to an Escape Room before I don’t have anything to compeer it too I can tell you it won't be my last!

Last week Chloe, Mr New Girl in Toon (Simon) and 1 quarter of Here Come The Hoopers (Alan) took on the Armageddon Room.

Now you'd be forgiven if you walked past Escape Key, it's nestled on St Andrews Street in Newcastle on the second floor. There was a welcome area where we were seated and Martin (the owner) gave us a little brief of what to expect and a little background of the building and surrounding area.

I don’t want to give too much away about the room or give out any secrets out but the room is set in an old Cold War bunker and an asteroid speeding towards Earth and the Government have chosen you (the Escapee) to get the bunker working again and save planet Earth. No pressure.

Not wanting to big up the boys too much, (I mean they most certainly couldn't have done it without Chloe and I) but they were on it and working their way around the room finding clues and helping us solve the puzzle.

It did take a little while to find the first clue but once we did we were on fire! As Martin promised there was a lot more to the room than what met the eye and I honestly found it amazing how all the clues came together and allowed us to move onto the next one.

There was something inside the room that everyone could have ago at. So don't think that you won't be any help in solving the clues because you will be, I promise. The atmosphere in the room was fantastic and I really did feel like the weight of the world lay on my shoulders.

It took us 42 minutes and 32 seconds to crack all the clues and save planet Earth!

Also at The Escape Key is the Plague Room, as St Andrews Street is actually near Newcastle's old Plague pit! You need to outwit the Plague doctor before you get the dreaded Black Death, sounds super creepy but super fun!

I decided that evening that I’d rather do something like this on a hen night rather than make cocktails or do afternoon tea as it was such good fun and I think if you’re going to complete the room with people you’ve never met it’s a great way to get to know new people.

We went on a Tuesday night and for 4 people it cost £15pp.
