The Black Horse - Beamish

Now Fenton is in our lives Matty and I seem to spend time googling 'dog friendly pubs North East'. When The Black Horse in Beamish popped up I knew it was where we were going to head to fill our tummies.

The flowers outside were so pretty. With ample free parking and just opposite the pub there is a child's play area with swings and a climbing frame it is the perfect place to bring the family.

I called up before hand to confirm dogs were welcome and the bar area where dogs are allowed were on a first come first served basis. I was slightly worried that there might be a bit of wait but there wasn't, thankfully and there were plenty of tables available.

The bar was bustling with people having drinks, catching up with the people around them, waiting to head through to the restaurant.

There was plenty to choose from on the menu, from Sunday roasts to Quorn sausage and mash with a vegetable gravy.

Matty and I both went for the Black Horse Famous fish and chips £14.95. Light crispy traditional beer battered haddock fillet with old fashioned hand cut chips homemade mushy peas and lemon.

It was a huge portion of fish on a traditional grease proof newspaper which was inscribed with the story of The Black Horse pub. There was no lemon, which was a shame because I usually get Matty's wedge also to drizzle on my fish which gives it a nice zesty kick.

Underneath the fish were the chips and they were extremely crispy and not as thick as I thought they would be.

Fenton was as good as gold and slept next to me on the bench.

If you are planning on eating in the main restaurant I do recommend you book, 01207 232569.

Please do let me know if you have any good dog friendly place for Fenton and I to try out, we'd love to hear about them.
