Sunday Lunch at The Stadium of Light

Sunday lunch is hands down the best meal of the week. It's even better when someone makes it for you. Gives you chance to properly catch up with your family before the busy working week ahead. Last Sunday Matty and I made our way to the Stadium of Light. For those of you who don't know the Stadium of Light is the home ground for the North East football team Sunderland.

As it was a non match day there were plenty of free parking, which meant there was only a short walk to the Riverview Brasserie.

We did make a booking for 2pm which was the latest booking we could make, the restaurant had clearly had a busy service. Other diners were finishing off their meals and chatting over coffee when we arrived.

As soon as we saw the menu we both knew straight away what we wanted to order. With a choice of 4 starter options, 5 main course options and 5 pudding options. Our food came pretty quick, before our drinks in fact.

Matty and I both went for the leek and potato soup, which was served with a freshly baked bread roll.

The soup was packed full of flavour and really delicious. The perfect way to kick start a 3 course meal.

I had a glass of red to accompany my meal while Matty opted for a coke, he was my designated driver.

My main course was delicious. It was the only option that was suitable for my dietary requirement. Emmental cheese soufflé with a beetroot compote with a side of herb salad with a house dressing.

The texture between the compote and the soufflé really complimented one another which worked perfectly.

Matty went for something a little more traditional. Roast beef with all the trimmings, Yorkshire pudding and roast gravy.

When asked if we would like to look at the pudding menu you we both said yes in complete unison.

Matty went for the spiced orange and drambuie pudding with butterscotch sauce. This totally reminded me of Christmas.

Chocolate and orange truffle torte with a Chantilly cream and forest fruit compote. Very tasty but very rich. I

For 1 course it's £10.95, 2 courses £14.95, 3 courses £18.95, I think it's good value for money as the food was very tasty and the service was brilliant.

I would recommend you book a table, to avoid disappointment 0371 911 1555.
