Durham City 10K with Totum Sport

7:15 pm on Wednesday 19th of July saw the second Prince Bishops Durham City Run take place.

Again this year there were 2 distances you could take part in, 5K and 10K - I went for the same as last year the 10K. The route had changed slightly from last year which in my opinion was much better!

I arrived to the excited vibe in the Market Square in Durham in a bit of a fluster, traffic was crazy as it was rush hour and the race route roads were closed. I headed straight over to see Totum Sport who I was representing during the 10K run. They kindly gave me my t-shirt. Totum is a supplement that contains 78 electrolytes that ensure your body absorbs everything it needs to stay fully hydrated and therefore perform to the best of it's ability.

The race organisers were Event's of the North who did an excellent job, there was a slight delay at the start which I have no idea what was for but the runners I was with weren't too bothered. There were plenty of toilets available and plenty of people to chat too.

Durham 10K isn't a PB course, it's two laps around the town, which is hilly and on Wednesday evening was super hot. But I did manage to take 10 minutes from last years time, so as you can imagine I was over the moon. Matty and I ran together, I'm pretty sure he could have gone much faster but we stayed together all the way which probably pushed me on slightly.

Although I didn't have a time in mind I just really wanted to beat my previous time for this event. The first lap was quite congested as the 5K and the 10K set off together so I was dodging people along the way. But once we had completed the first lap and the 5K lot went to finish the pathways became much clearer and you could get around people easier.

Finishing the run in the iconic Palace Green next to Durham Cathedral is without a doubt my favourite bit of the run. Crossing the finish line, I got handed a bottle of much needed water which I drank rather quickly and then were given my medal and t-shirt.

Once we'd finished we headed straight to Weatherspoon's where I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a pizza.

I slept like a log on Wednesday evening. Thank you to Totum sport in allowing me to represent them in the second Durham City Run. If you would like to try some Totum Sport yourself you can either buy on their website.
