As R was running late I arrived on my own and quickly found some familiar faces to chat with until he got there.
I was really worried about being a bit cold with those boots on. Don't worry they keep you nice and warm, I was lathered by the end of the night.
Buck's Fizz in hand I fell in love with the assembly rooms. So much detail within all the different suites on offer.
^^^This celling is incredible.
The Assembly rooms dates back to 1776. We were seated in the Chandelier suits while I waited for R to arrive. The chandelier suite was incredible. The high celings were my favourite feature about the room.
Canapés were floating around and of course some wine.
After a very warm welcome by the Assembly rooms team we were told all about the Assembly rooms history and about all the links with Bonbar. The building has stayed in the same family since 1974.
Then we slowly made our way downstairs to Bonbar which I think is my favourite bar in Newcastle. When my friend got married last year I arranged a table here for her home leg of the hen party tour. Everyone had such a great time, including the mother of the bride groom.
I actually might take my Dad there one day as he seems to be coming my new partner in crime to go out with in Newcastle.
And I happen to know first hand Bonbar do a cracking steak sandwich!
Along with the extensive list of cocktails and champagne the décor in Bonbar is so chic and no sticky floors like other bars in Newcastle that shall remain nameless (you know who you are).
R and I mingled and tired lots of different cocktails.
Which were made and severed in weird and wonderful ways. Including in these panda glass, Kung Fu Panda cocktail if you're interested.
^^^ I told you it was very blue.
To which I was reminded although it was my birthday week I had to go to work tomorrow so put the wine and cocktail tasting on hold.
So as a birthday treat we all headed to Byron for a burger or 4.
Which meant I got a chance to see the Assembly Rooms lit up in all her glory.
A hop skip and a jump across town we ended up at Byron. The new burger joint in town.
A fabulous way to celebrate my birthday. Thank you Bonbar for having me.
