The Botanist Christmas Menu 2017 - Newcastle

The Botanist is possibly one of the most festive places to be in Newcastle right now. The twinkling lights in the doom and the live music really mades you feel all Christmasy!

Last week I joined a few other North East bloggers to sample their New Christmas menu.

We kick started our night on the outdoor terrace that has been transformed into a fairy light wonderland, where we sipped mulled wine and learnt what goes into  The Botanists new cocktail Budvar Mule.

The Budvar Mule was a mix of, lemon thyme, ginger, lemon juice, Tanquery gin, Cointreau, topped with Budvar which as the name suggests is from the same people who make Budwiser. It tasted like a pale lager with a lemon twist £7.95. Not something I'd be able to drink a whole glass off.

It was getting pretty chilly on the outdoor terrace so it was back inside to the mezzanine which opened back in October.

I love sitting up on the mezzanine as you get a good view of the bar and it has a real exclusive feel about the area.

The Christmas starters at The Botanist didn't disappoint.

Curried cauliflower and coconut soup, with toasted almonds and curry oil. Served in the cutest mug and a delicious bread roll which was the perfect accompaniment.

Smoked salmon rillette with an avocado salsa, homemade chilli jam and olive oil croutons. Now this was delicious a definite favourite of mine.

Roast jerk ham, celeriac and apple remouldade with a honey mustard dressing. To me it wouldn't be quite Christmas without a ham joint, although I don't eat meat anymore I was assured by my fellow diners that this was delicious.

On to the main event, The Botanist have a festive selection of main courses on offer.

The turkey hanging kabab with a spiced cranberry glaze. Served with a pot of gravy, the kabab swings over a dish of seasonal vegetables. I can tell this is going to be an instagram favourite.

Sirloin steak with braised red cabbage, smoked bacon and thyme sauce. This was a firm favourite on the table. The steak is cooked to your liking.

For non meat lovers there was baked cod in a herb crust with chorizo tomato and bean stew. But remember there is chorizo in this dish so I didn't get to try it.

Roast butternut squash and mushroom wellington with goat's cheese, chestnut, sage and a roast with roast cheery tomatoes. This was delicious and I ate most of the dish myself.

Blueberry and passion fruit £7.75 was my cocktail of choice to indulge in. Fresh berries, lemon juice, passion fruit syrup and liquor, with a burst of Brockmans blueberry infused gin. Finished with a touch of vanilla liquor. Deliciously fresh.

Now it comes to my favourite course of any meal, pudding. The deserts on this year's Christmas menu do not disappoint.

My favourite dessert will come no shock as the chocolate fudge brownie with mint chocolate chip ice cream. The pictures don't do it any justice, it was incredibly delicious.

Christmas bakewell tart with orange brandy custard. The orange brandy custard was amazing! Can't believe I've never tried anything like this before.

Cranberry and raspberry meringue, poached pear and eggnog ice cream. Meringue is a favourite dessert of mine and the poached pear was perfectly placed on top.

For 3 course lunch at £22.75 and £27.50 for dinner, I think this is a really good deal and defiantly worth this visit!
