Stables - Beamish Hall

On Sunday our family had a birthday to celebrate. We all piled in cars and taxis and made our way to Beamish Hall to visit the Stables, the restaurant just behind the grand hall.

The Stables is a converted 18th century stable block that is now a restaurant and a microbrewery.

Just as you enter the restaurant there is a beautiful courtyard with a water feature but as we were there on Sunday night, it was pretty busy and there was no room for our party.

Our meal started like every good meal should, with a glass of wine.

A Rioja to be exact.

We had an aperitif in the bar before we were seated at our table. There was 10 of us altogether, including two children. The service was fantastic.

I started, along with everyone else on the table, with King prawn tempura with a sweet chilli dip (£6.50).

These prawns where fluffy and delicious. I only wish there was one more.

Well I say everyone had the same starter, Matty didn't. He went for the Pressed ham hock terrine, pease pudding and toast (£5.95).

Between courses we kept the wine flowing.

Ahmed indulged in a what looked like a delicious trio of Northumberland Artisan sausages, buttered mash, Beamish ale gravy, French fried onions with spring greens (£11.95).

I know he throughly enjoyed with as I was sat next to him and there was nothing left on his plate.

Matty, like my Dad went for the 8oz Rib eye steak, medium rare. This was served with roast tomato, mushrooms and crispy onion rings. There was a choice of hand cup chips or french fries. They went for one of each (£17.95).

Neither felt the need to share their onion rings with me.

My tradition Veg dinner was delicious. With asparagus and all the trimmings (£10.95). What you can't see, there was swede mash, broccoli, broccoli, new potatoes and roast potatoes.

The Yorkshire pudding was the absolute star of the show, it was exactly how I wish I could make mine.

I couldn't get a photo of everyones meal but also on the table was a roast chicken dinner and a few roast pork dinners so we did get 2 sides of vegetables to go along with these meals.

The food was perfect and the company matched.

Pudding is my favourite course, so when the pudding menu came around I had to have a peak.

The Stables Eton Mess (£4.95) was very popular on the table, myself and I think 2 others went for it, but I have to say I really didn't enjoy it. It was mainly cream and strawberry sauce, somewhat disappointing.

Matty defiantly picked a winner.

Sticky toffee pudding with salt caramel ice cream (£5.25). Shame he was sat so far away from me, I really wanted a taste.

To book your table at the Stables just call 01207 233 733.

The perfect place for a large family gathering or an intimate dinner date.
