Tapas at La Tasca - Calasparra Spain

Last week I had some work meetings in France and Spain so, my parents and I piled our suitcases into my Dad's car and made our way to the Channel tunnel and across into France.

Once our meetings were over my brief few days off started, kicking off with Tapas at La Tasca in Calasparra, a family run tapas restaurant in the middle of a typically Spanish town.

It was Friday night and we arrived at our usual time for dinner at 8pm. The Spanish don't come out for dinner until about 9pm and people were still walking in the door for food until we left at 10pm.

So we had the restaurant to ourselves.

The typical Spanish decor made me feel like I was in true Spain.

We were seated, took off our coats, given menus, ordered wine and put our coats back on. It was rather cold.

When we are in Spain Dad usually asked the Sommelier to just bring a bottle of a good Rioja and this was the one he was brought.

I ordered a selection of Tapas for Mam and I. Just like in typical Spanish style it came out as soon as it was ready.

Crab salad (€1.80),

Russian salad (my new favourite tapas dish €1.80),

Spinach crepe with raisins and pine nuts (€2.80),

Patatas with a garlic dip (€2.80), the garlic dip tasted exactly like the one you get at Central Pizza in Newcastle!

and finally caramelised goats cheese (€2.80).

We were well and truly stuffed once we had eaten all this. The cost of the food was extremely cheap,  there was no comprise on the taste.

Dad didn't fancy any tapas although he kept trying everything we ordered.

He got the chicken breast with chips (€7.50). He loved it and has been comparing food to this meal since.

Places like this in rural Spain are fantastic and the quality of food is excellent. Our bill for the meal and beer and wine came to €46.20, I still can't believe how much food we had for under £40. The people are so pleased to see English tourists and we had a fabulous night speaking broken Spanish and correcting their broken English we had a brilliant laugh.

The following day we headed straight to Marbella where I've been for the last few days, you'll know if you've been following my Instagram @katiejaneonline.
