Supper at Finbarrs - Durham

My family visit Finbarr’s easily 3 times a month, sometimes more. Running up to Christmas we went 3 times over one weekend. This isn’t unusual for us, we love the restaurant.

Finbarr’s moved since the last time I blogged about the restaurant. Now based in Aykley Heads House (Where Birsto 21 used to be) next to the registry office, so ideal for a post wedding meal. Still owned by the same people, same familiar faces serving you, just a change of location.

The Sunday before Easter my parents and I headed there for a pre Easter meal. Booking a table is essential, Finbarr’s is in my opinion the best restaurant in Durham and does book up so to avoid disappointment especially on weekends, holidays and graduation week.

On Sunday’s as well as the a la carte there is a set menu which my parents and I stuck too. For 2 courses it’s £22 and 3 it’s £24.50. I honestly think this is incredible value for money as the food is brilliant.

Bread is really good at Finbarr's and complimentary. I always reach for the soda bread.

To start with my Dad and I both ordered the Salt and Pepper Squid with Chilli and Lemon. The favours were amazing.

Mum ordered the Mozzarella, Prosciuttto and fennel with Pesto. Which I know she enjoyed as she told me around 3 times.

The restaurant was quite for a Sunday evening. We were the last people to dine but weren’t rushed at any point.

As it was Sunday a good old English Sunday roast was what my parents ordered.

Roast Sirloin of Beef cooked pink, roast potato, carrots, green beans and Yorkshire pudding with lashings of gravy.

I ordered one of my favourite meals.

Crispy fishcakes with spinach, parsley cream and French fries.

Now after all that food you would think I would be full, my parents certainly were but no I still had room for a pudding.

Iced mango parfait with a pineapple and kiwi salsa.  The red you can see within the salsa is chilli. It gave it the perfect twist.

Food finished it was time to retire to bed.

You can find my outfit here.
