Usually my Mam is the one in the kitchen cooking our family up with all kinds of delicious treats so far a change I took her out for a 3 course lunch as a way to say thank you for all her hard work. Fiume was the venue of choice. Around a 20 minute car journey from Durham in Fatfeild, Washington.
Fiume is above the Riverbar very easy to get too and there was plenty of parking.
We were showing straight to our table by the friendly staff and browsed through the menu. As it's Christmas we decided to stick to the Christmas lunch menu which is £14.95 for 2 courses or £18.95 for 3 course.
There was a bar area for pre dinner drinks with a gorgeous Christmas tree.
For starters I went for the carrot and parsnip soup which came with 2 slices of doorstop thick bread. The soup was just what I needed to warm me up as the weather seems to be dropping slowly in temperature.
Mam went for the Duck Terrine with homemade plum jam and crostini which came with a side salad.
There was also a Wild Bore Pate on offer.
As we had finished our starters the restaurant was starting to fill up.
For main course Mam and I both went for the same thing. Pan fried fillet of Salmon, topped off with tiger prawns, cherry tomatoes, chilli and garlic butter with a white wine herb sauce.
The salmon was delicious and very filling. I was surprised at how many prawns were on the plate as I thought we would only get a few but there was plenty.
All main course come with a side of seasonal vegetables.
Of course on the Christmas menu there was a Turkey option with all the trimmings (including pigs in blankets) and a vegetarian option of tomato basil and spinach gnocchi.
We were both far too full to order our own pudding but I managed to persuade Mam to 'share' one with me.
Naturally we ordered Christmas pudding, but it was a close call between the warm chocolate fudge cake and the mulled fuirt tiramisu!
Overall I was very impressed with the food in Fiume and I though the food was delicious and I was surprisingly impressed. To book call 0191 4150007.
The Christmas menu at Fiume is on until January 1st so plenty of time to get booked in
This will be my last blog post before Christmas so I would just like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and I shall be back after boxing day with my usual looking back on the year. All the best. Katie Jane xx
