Le Raaj - Chester Le Street

Friday night curry used to be somewhat of a tradition before running took over my life so it seemed fitting to head to Le Raaj last Friday.

Le Raaj is housed in the old Victorian Chapel on the A167 heading towards Chester Le Street (if you are coming from Durham).

We were showing straight to our table where I ordered a bottle of wine.

It was 7pm and the restaurant was already busy with couples catching up and friends enjoying chattering over a pints of larger.

We ordered some poppadoms and pickles which arrived straight away which I nibbled while waiting for my starter.

I went for Onion Bajis (£3.95) which were so crispy and delicious.

M opted for Tikka Chicken Paneer (£4.95) which looked and smelt amazing. Chicken cooked in Tandoor served with homemade Indian cheese.

Although my spice tolerance is getting slightly better a Tikka masala will always be my 'go to' dish when I'm out for curry.

I ordered the Tandoori King Prawn Masala (£13.95). This was the best curry I've had in a long time. Even when I was full I was still dipping the garlic nan bread into the sauce.

For main course M ordered Makhoni (£8.95) maybe a little more adventurous than me. Tikka chicken in a creamy sauce of butter, nut powder, fresh cream, ground coconut and mango flavour with a mix of spices.

And we both shared a mushroom rice.

I couldn't managed a pudding after all the food, it tasted so good I had to stop myself from running my finger around the dish once all the nan bread had gone.

There is also private dining at La Raaj in Chester Le Street which is ideal for a Christmas party!!

The staff at Le Raaj are brilliant. Very attentive and friendly, as I'm sure you know I think having a good customer service in a restaurant is equally important as the food as dining out should be an experience.

I would recommend you book a table at Le Raaj which you can do by calling 0191 389 0561. No doubt I'll be heading back there with my family very soon.
