Velvet Elvis - Durham

Most of my blog posts are based in Newcastle but I actually live in Durham.

I hardly ever talking about my beautiful city I call home, so on my first post a year on from starting I am making a new year revolution to you that I will talk more about Durham.

On Saturday Mam and I were in Durham having a little look around, then my tummy told me I was hungry and Mam needed a coffee.

Durham is littered with little coffee gems and plenty of chain coffee shops, which I am not a massive fan of. I find them ridiculously expensive and sticky. Must be something in their cleaning fluids.

I found Velvet Elvis on one of my Instagram stalking sessions last week. (Come on we all do it) and I walked past there market stall on Saturday that prompted me to take Mam.

Above the Velvet Elvis vintage clothes shop lies the quirky cafe.

Mam and I opted for the window seat with the most spectacular view of Durham Cathedral.

Just look how cool my chair was.

I was very impressed with the Levis cover.

I browsed the menu while Mam's amazing smelling coffee came.

I ordered The Old Bailey. For non locals who won't know the old bailey is the street behind the cathedral where some of the university colleges are.

However The Old Bailey in this case is a ham and pease pudding sandwich.

It was only around 18 months ago I found out pease pudding could only be found in the North East. Which is a bit of a shame. I think it's bloody lovely.

I got with my favourite water of all time.

The sandwich was so good. The best ham and pease pudding in town without a doubt.

Other than the good food and the gourgous smelling coffee I thought Velvet Elvis was really good value for money. Coffee was £2.20 which was an americano (as a non coffee drinker but a ex coffee maker this is my favourite one to make) my sandwich was £3.40.

Staff are all incredibly friendly and were defiantly part of the 'cool' kids at school.

When you're there ask for table 3 and do not forget your loyalty card as you'll be going back for sure!!
