On Thursday night after the Thinking Digital Conference farewell drinks Hannah & I had persuaded ourselves that we needed a burger.
Hannah knew just the place.
Fat Hippo Underground.
I love a burger but very rarely order them as some times they can be a bit gristly. In fact the last time I ordered a burger and truly enjoyed a burger was over in New York.
Fat Hippo is on Shakespeare street right next to the Theatre royal. The neon sign catches your eye. Perfect location for a pre theatre burger.
The door leads you to the stairs.
Which takes you underneath the streets of Newcastle, you are shown to your table and given the menu to browse.
While you enjoy an ice cold pepsi while the server whisks your food order off to the kitchen.
Then your food arrives.
The Candy Man burger for me. Double patty with cheese, onion jam and candied bacon.
And the Fat Hippo for Hannah. Double patty, streaky bacon, chorizo, cheese, onion rings and Fat Hippo sauce.
All burgers are served with triple fried hand cup chips.
I had never tired candied bacon but it's now my favourite kind of bacon. I'm getting so hungry now just remembering how good the burger was.
The staff are so friendly too. Everyone had a smile on their face and were more than happy to help.
Grab some friends and go underground for the best burgers in Newcastle. Please try the cocktails and tell me what they're like. Pretty please?
There is also a Fat Hippo in Jesmond which you can visit. It is now firmly on my list of places to visit.
